Our participation in the XII International EPICS

Between the 27th and the 29th of May 2026, our InterGedi members Dr Daniel Pascual and Ana E. Sancho-Ortiz took part in the Twelfth International Symposium on Intercultural, Cognitive and Social Pragmatics (EPICS XII). This on-site conference was held at the Faculty of Humanities of Pablo de Olavide University, Seville (Spain). The symposium was organised by the research group “Intercultural pragmatic studies (English-Spanish): Pragmatic and discourse issues” and it is part of their PATDISC project, “Discourse pathologisation in Twitter, Instagram and TikTok”.

This year, the conference theme revolved around “Communicating in the digital age: Pragmatics, discourse analysis and (online) interaction”. The programme included keynote speaker Jannis Androutsopoulos (Universität Hamburg), Pilar Garcés-Conejos Blitvich (University of North Carolina, Charlotte), Caroline Tagg (The Open University) and Camilla Vásquez (University of South Florida).

Ana E. Sancho-Ortiz delivered her paper in the evening of Thursday 28th. Her presentation was titled “Sharing knowledge or selling the knowledge-holder? A pragmatic and multimodal exploration of expert identity on Instagram through the analysis of post design”. You can find out more about it here.

On Friday 29th, Dr Daniel Pascual presented his study on “The strategic use of verbal explanatory processes in Ask-an-Expert climate websites”. Have a look at his abstract here.

It was wonderful to be able to participate in EPICS XII. We cannot wait to attend future editions!
