INTERGEDI COMMEMORATES THE EUROPEAN RESEARCHERS’ NIGHT AT CAIXAFORUM (ZARAGOZA)

On Friday, September 26th, Luis Martínez-Kleiser, Lucía Lasheras-Bielsa and Ana E. Sancho-Ortiz participated in the activities held at CaixaForum (Zaragoza) to celebrate the European Researchers’ Night. This public event was organised by ESCIENCIA and Fundación “la Caixa” and funded by the European Union under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (HORIZON-MSCA-2022-CITIZENS-01). Our team members contributed to the diverse programme of free activities designed for all audiences.

At 5:30 pm, Luis Martínez-Kleiser took part in the Storytelling activity, presenting his story “El sabio que nadie entendía” (“The wise man that no one understood”), about a scientist who makes important discoveries but fails to have an impact on their community because of their obscure jargon. A little bee helps the scientist out so that society can benefit from the research. Luis’s compelling story was a success amongst the children and, allegorically, served to raise awareness of the importance of adjusting the discourse to make expert knowledge accessible by the wider public.

At 7 pm, our colleague Lucía Lasheras-Bielsa participated in the Speed Dating session that was carried out in the cafeteria of the CaixaForum building. This dynamic activity consisted of short, rotating one-to-one sessions, whereby members of the public were offered the opportunity to directly talk to Lucía. She engaged in conversations with the audience, who asked her questions about the linguistic research on digital scientific dissemination practices that we conduct.

Lastly, at 8 pm, Ana E. Sancho-Ortiz rounded off our contributions by delivering a talk during the climate change slot of the Late Show session. Her eight-minute presentation was titled “Del laboratorio a los jóvenes: Cómo se transforma el discurso del cambio climático para llegar al público adolescente” (“From the lab to the young: How climate change discourse is transformed for an adolescent public”).

We were extremely happy to meet with such a positive reception for all the activities that our InterGedi team members engaged in! To many more years bringing researchers into the light!
