Paula Wood-Borque defends her doctoral thesis

Our team member Dr Paula Wood Borque defended her PhD thesis this March 24th, 2026, titled “Bringing audiovisual materials to the English as a Foreign Language classroom in Secondary Education: Compilation, multimodal analysis and exploitation of a corpus of films and series”.

Her doctoral project was supervised by our senior member Dr Pilar Mur Dueñas. The examining board of her PhD Viva was conformed by Dr Daniel Pascual Oliva (Universidad de Zaragoza), Dr Miguel F. Ruiz Garrido (Universitat Jaume I) and presided by Dr Melba Libia Cárdenas Beltrán (Universidad Nacional de Colombia).

Dr Wood-Borque has received a cum laude distinction for her PhD thesis, which makes an innovative contribution to many fields, including applied linguistics in general, multimodality, and language teaching and learning theory and praxis.

Every one of us from InterGedi would like to congratulate Dr Paula Wood-Borque on reaching this well-deserved milestone in her academic and professional career. We are certain that the results and contribution of her PhD project will usher in future investigation avenues and will be much appreciated by peer researchers and teachers.
