We present at the 59th BAAL Annual Conference 2026

InterGEDI researchers Dr Isabel Herrando-Rodrigo and Dr Suganthi John participated in the 59th Annual Conference of the British Association for Applied Linguistics (BAAL 2026), which was held at Aston University (Birmingham, UK) from the 1st to the 3rd of September 2026.

Under the theme “Applied Linguistics in Transformation”, the conference provided a space to reflect on the shifts that are currently shaping the field, with a particular focus on the challenges and opportunities posed by digital processes and artificial intelligence, as well as transformations in research methods and paradigms.

The programme offered different formats, including individual contributions, colloquia, round tables and poster presentations addressing a wide range of applied linguistic issues across diverse social and professional contexts. Four plenaries were delivered by April Baker-Bell (University of Michigan), Jannis Androutsopoulos (University of Hamburg), Sarah Mercer (University of Graz) and Sharese King (University of Chicago).

On Wednesday the 2nd, Dr Herrando-Rodrigo and Dr John presented their joint paper entitled “Recontextualising the expert: Writer identity and digital visibility in The Conversation”. To find out more information about their presentation, follow this link.
