Our workshop on scientific dissemination in English through social media with the IEDIS
Last Friday the 3rd, October 2025, Dr Pilar Mur-Dueñas, Dr Silvia Murillo-Ornat and Dr Daniel Pascual ran a training workshop aimed at boosting the digital dissemination skills of other researchers from the University of Zaragoza (Unizar). The activities spanned four hours in the morning, in which participants learnt about research-based, multimodal strategies for communicating expertise in English in the digital sphere.

This initiative was carried out in collaboration with the research Institute on Employment, Digital Society and Sustainability (IEDIS). It was held at the IEDIS Behavioural Lab and was open to the IEDIS community members by completing this form.

Our hands-on workshop offered a comprehensive session designed to equip researchers with practical skills for public transfer of specialised knowledge. First of all, we began by raising awareness of two generic aspects that are key to tailoring our messages: the purpose and the target audience. Then, we moved on to explore functions and affordances of the digital medium, like emoji language, and discussed the importance of choosing lexicogrammatical forms wisely. After the break, we analysed the communicative power of visual elements before the final activities, where participants had the opportunity to analyse and create their own posts, as well as give and receive peer feedback.
We put in a lot of effort to organise and run the workshop. It was very rewarding to hear from the participants that the activities were insightful and useful!
