INTERGEDI CELEBRATES THE EUROPEAN RESEARCHERS’ NIGHT IN HUESCA
On Friday evening, the 26th of September 2025, our InterGedi team extended its participation in the European Researchers’ Night to the parallel activities taking place in Plaza Navarra (Huesca).

This dissemination event, featuring different research experiments and activities, was part of a broader outreach initiative organised by the Unidad Cultura Científica (UCC) at the University of Zaragoza (UNIZAR), was framed within the European project G9-SCIENCE4ALL and featured the collaboration of the Huesca Campus. The goal was to bring research closer to people of different ages across the Aragonese community.

Our member María Fanlo-Piniés was in charge of running the InterGedi stand in Huesca, leading the activities we designed, titled “Intergedi knights: Gatekeepers of science and the galaxy”, which sought to encourage young and adult audiences alike to rise to our call to action. These activities were based on a set of texts retrieved from our SciDis database.
Under an entertaining, Star Wars-inspired theme, participants took up a scientific communication challenge. The galaxy was in serious danger and they were the ones in charge of coming to the rescue. They had to decipher a key scientific message written in the Aurebesh alphabet via the HoloNet. This message was encoded and scrambled and its correct interpretation was crucial to guarantee the survival of the species of the galaxy. Through this playful and fictional scenario, we aimed to raise awareness of the difficulties of decoding obscure jargon, but also of the importance of recontextualising it.
We are grateful for the great reception the activities received from young and senior members of the public. We cannot wait to participate again in future events where we can disseminate our scientific, linguistic research projects!
