LUIS MARTÍNEZ-KLEISER CO-PRESENTS AT THE 62 SECOT CONFERENCE IN MADRID

Our InterGedi member Luis Martínez-Kleiser participated yesterday, Thursday 2nd, October, in the 62 Conference of Sociedad Española de Cirugía Ortopédica y Traumatología (SECOT), which took place in Madrid between the 1st and the 3rd of October, 2025. The conference was organised by the Spanish Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology (SECOT) and serves as a forum for sharing the latest clinical and research advancements in this branch of medicine.

Together with Alba Boudet Jiménez, Luis co-delivered a speech titled: “Ready, Steady… Go!! How to make a scientific presentation”. Following a TED-talk-like format, their presentation was aimed at providing researchers and specialists with strategic, linguistic tools to succeed in communicating science in English.

The talk underscored the importance of mastering academic language and its role in boosting credibility, alongside addressing two common fears that people experience when speaking in public in a foreign language: Being misunderstood and failing to understand others. Practical advice was given to tackle these issues, touching upon aspects concerning accents, pronunciation and grammatical accuracy.

One of the core concepts at the end of Luis and Alba’s talk was related to the culture of the prototypes and the Minimum Viable Product (MVP). They emphasised that every research presentation should be viewed as a prototype on which to gather feedback for iteration and improvement.

It was a great pleasure to see one of our team members take part in this medical forum. Another demonstration of the interdisciplinary applications of linguistic research!
