OUR PARTICIPATION IN THE 6TH INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM GR ICLHE

Our colleagues, Dr. Vicky Gil and Dr. Pilar Mur-Dueñas participated in the 6th International Symposium GR ICLHE, entitled “Revisitando ICLHE: lecciones aprendidas y nuevas vías de investigación”. It took place on the 5th and 6th of June, 2025, and it was organized by the research group DILEAR (Didáctica e Innovación en entornos de aprendizaje de lenguas: Análisis e Investigación) at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (Ciudad Real). The group is coordinated by Esther Nieto Moreno de Diezmas, who organized the event together with Alicia Fernández Barrera and Lucas Baeyens Morata.
This event gathered together a wide network of international researchers and teachers, with the aim of rethinking the ICLHE approach (Integrating Content and Language in Higher Education). It was key to share opinions and thoughts among those who explore integrated learning in English, so as to explore current common practices and possible future approaches and challenges. Some of the subjects dealt with in this meeting were teachers’ training, assessment procedures, inclusive practices, and the role of multilingualism at current universities. The main aim of this symposium was to offer a space to rethink critically ICLHE, so as to establish connections between theory, research, and actual practices that will enrich teaching and learning processes at universities.
The event was addressed to researchers and ICLHE and EME (English-medium education) professionals who wanted to share their experiences and points of view in an enriching atmosphere. The two plenary speakers were Dr. Hans Malmström, from Universidad Tecnológica Chalmers (Gothenburg, Sweden), whose research focuses on applied linguistics and learning, and Dr. Mª Noelia Ruiz Madrid, Universitat Jaume I (Castellón, Spain), who offered a detailed overview of the evolution of ICLHE in the Spanish context drawing on the ROAD-MAPPING framework put forward by Dafouz and Smit (2016) and the steps to be taken by the IMICLES network recently financed.
Moreover, there was a round table and diverse parallel sessions, in which 10-minute presentations from experts in teaching and researchers also took place, followed by short discussions on the varied experiences and research carried out around Spain. In the “PhD Corner”, students had the opportunity to briefly present, through the format Elevator pitch, their current research projects focused on ICLHE and EMI in the context of higher education in Spain.
